Brandon Beane Viewed The Stefon Diggs Contract As An ‘Albatross’

It’s becoming pretty obvious here that the Bills were dying to get rid of Stefon Diggs. It’s kind of a miracle Buffalo ended up getting a second round pick for Diggs, in reality. Brandon Beane spoke more about the trade on a recent podcast and even admitted he viewed the contract as an ‘albatross’.

“From a cap standpoint, we decided just to go ahead and eat it now, and we think we can compete and do what we need to do by eating it now,” Beane said on “The Athletic Football Show.” “Because if we didn’t … it’s just like that albatross, just hanging on your neck all year.”

For the record, Buffalo is eating $31 million in dead money just to get rid of Diggs. $31 million to go away. What more can you say?

Diggs still had a quality season a year ago but faded really bad in the second half of the year. The former Maryland product posted a 1,183 yard season but he failed to reach 90 yards in the last 13 games of the season including the playoffs. Let’s call it, still a good player but someone who has clearly lost a step.

Beane also weighed in on the current Bills wide receiver room. He essentially referred to them as different flavors of ice cream, which I guess can be good?

“I would say our receiver room right now is like Baskins-Robbins,” Beane said. “We got a lot of flavor.”

Gabe Davis also left for Jacksonville but Buffalo will deploy Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Chase Claypool, Mack Hollins, KJ Hamler, Justin Shorter, and Andy Isabella heading into the 2024-25 NFL Season. Obviously, not all of those names will make the 53-man roster.

Let’s close things out with a laugh. You’re going to want to see Beane’s comments on Diggs from back in January. A friendly reminder how much these guys lie to the media on a daily basis.

If you’re looking for insight on Diggs fantasy wise now that he’s in Houston, I got you there too.
