Brandon Aiyuk continues to be the ultimate sour patch kid. There is no pleasing this guy. As I’ve been saying about Aiyuk, he lives in Looney Tunes land and continues to show zero self-awareness. The Patriots had a deal done for the former Arizona State wide receiver and he turned them down.
Adam Schefter revealed yesterday that the Patriots were out and were set to focus on their young receivers. Then 49ers beat writer jumped in and added that Aiyuk simply didn’t show any willingness to play for the Pats.
The only way to fix Aiyuk at this point is to punch him in the face. That’s the truth.
The reality of the situation here is that the 49ers don’t even have to do anything. He’s under contract with the 5th year option. I’m not sure why Aiyuk thinks the rules don’t apply to him but it’s insane he’s even holding out in the first place. Nor does he have any numbers to indicate that he’s an elite player at the position. If Aiyuk is truly looking for the top dollar and still said no to New England, there is no pleasing this guy. He continues to prove over and over again that he’s a cancer.
If the 49ers were smart, they would have traded this guy on draft night to maximize the return.
The Browns and Steelers remain strong contenders for Aiyuk. If a deal is struck with Cleveland, Amari Cooper is expected to go back the other way, which would be an improvement over Kendrick Bourne in the New England version of the deal. We know what Aiyuk prefers destination-wise.
