Brandon Aiyuk Admits He Was A Prick About His Contract

During the whole Brandon Aiyuk contract saga, we talked many times about how unreasonable the guy was being. It turns out, the former Arizona State product has now admitted he was unnecessarily difficult during contract talks with the 49ers.

Maybe the guy does have *some* self-awareness…

VIA ESPN:

“I’m not going to lie: I made it a little bit more difficult than it needed to at the end,” Aiyuk said in his first comments since signing his new deal. “I mean, it was like that for me, I’m not going to say the whole entire time, but for about the past month, I think we were pretty good.”

“A squeaky wheel has to be silent sometime and know when to squeak,” Aiyuk said. “[I was] just [finding] that whole balance.”

For as unreasonable as the guy was, he somehow got his cake and ate it too. Aiyuk is now the 5th highest paid receiver in the league and will carry a $30 million AAV over the length of the new contract. A total overpay on the 49ers part but whatever.

What needs to be talked about now is what’s going to happen in the aftermath of all of this? Does this mean Deebo Samuel’s time with the team will come to an end after the conclusion of this season? Can the 49ers afford to keep this core together? Especially once Brock Purdy gets his pay day?

The 49ers could be in a Last Dance type of season all things considered.
