We all knew the Patriots would probably struggle this season. We just weren’t sure what we were totally getting from new head coach Jerod Mayo. New England currently sits 1-6 but it’s really not about the record. It’s just so damn obvious that they miss Bill Belichick and that Mayo is currently lost at sea.
Stay with me here because the timeline is important:
After the last L to the Jaguars, Mayo called his team soft.
Belichick then made his weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee show and totally humiliated Mayo without even trying. He wants to remind everyone that New England was number one in the league last year at stopping the run with virtually the same players.
“I’m kind of hurt for those guys because to call them soft — they’re not soft,” he said. “They were the best team in the league last year against the run. Those guys, they went out there and did it even though we couldn’t score many points offensively.
“So, I feel bad for the defensive players on that one because those guys, that’s a tough group. Jon Jones, [Davon] Godchaux, [Deatrich] Wise [Jr.], [Anfernee] Jennings, [Joshua] Uche, those are all tough players. They’ll strap it up and go. [Kyle] Dugger, I mean they are tough guys.”
It’s also pretty clear New England misses Belichick on special teams…
What more needs to be said beyond this? The Patriots made a HORRENDOUS choice and Mayo will not be long for this job. That much is clear. The only thing he’s good at right now is throwing others under the bus. Would anybody even notice if he wasn’t on the sidelines?
