The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly shopping DeAndre Hopkins this offseason after another disappointing season for the once promising team. After the news was reported, courtesy of Jordan Schultz of theScore, NFL fans and analysts started buzzing about potential landing spots.
Who has the best chance? Who makes the most sense? What are the Hopkins trade odds? Let’s look at six teams’ odds provided by Adam Thompson of Bookies.com.
Side note, these odds are purely hypothetical and are currently used for entertainment purposes. However, they do paint a relatively accurate picture of the teams to acquire Hopkins.
It should come as no surprise the Kansas City Chiefs are favorites to land the star wideout, as the AFC is currently a battleground of top tier teams. Before this year, they traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, losing their scary deep threat in the “Cheetah.”
Now that the AFC has done nothing but beef up their offenses, a Hopkins trade to the Chiefs makes almost perfect sense. With their limiting receiver core consisting mainly of Travis Kelce and JuJu Smith-Schuster, pairing Hopkins with Patrick Mahomes will be devastating to the rest of the AFC and the league.
The Hopkins trade odds for the Patriots seem a little too high. However, it is not entirely out of the question. No doubt, once the news of a potential trade was reported, it was due to the video on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” of Hopkins telling Bill Belichick, “I love you, man.”
The Patriots were just one game away of making the playoffs this year. As well, Jakobi Meyers, their current top wide receiver, is a free agent this year. Therefore, a trade to the Patriots should be on the lookout.
It makes sense for the defensive dominating team, thanks to the career high season Matt Judon had, to acquire an offensive weapon to support Mac Jones on the opposite front.
Green Bay making a move for Hopkins is as reasonable they come. After also missing the playoffs by one game, the organization needs to keep in mind the limited time Aaron Rodgers has left, if any.
Ever since Davante Adams was traded, there has been a void in their receiving core that has yet to be filled by a dominant receiver. After what seems to be Rodger’s last season, acquiring Hopkins could entice him to return for a “Last Dance” with the Packers before officially retiring.
After a dominant season by the Eagles, the Cowboys needs help on their receiving front in order to keep up. Having Hopkins and CeeDee Lamb pair up to support Dak Prescott in the passing game seems like a huge help to the offense. Especially after a split backfield has emerged, the defense won’t have a clue who is getting the ball.
The Giants have never needed more receiving help than now. After the horrific seasons Kenny Golladay has had in New York, there needs to be an upgrade brought in to help an offense led by Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. They made the playoffs this year and could potentially return next year with Hopkins’ addition.
Lions do not need to focus on their offense this off season, the real problem is their defense. After having the highest scoring offense and most yards per game for the first four weeks, their defense let them down leaving them with a 1-3 record to start the year. There’s a reason this is so low on the list, it shouldn’t even be a thought however, especially with the young pair of receivers in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.
