Barstool Sports Hires Fred Smoot

Fred Smoot is entering the sports media landscape. The former Vikings and Redskins cornerback is joining Barstool Sports for the start of next football season.

Dave Portnoy announced the news via social media.

Big Cat followed shortly after that Smoot will mostly be in the office on Thursdays. What that entails, who knows? Likely appearances on The Yak and Pardon My Take. The specifics of Smoot’s role remain unclear but it doesn’t look like any of their new hires know how to blog so I doubt that will be in the cards.

This ^ is probably a great example of what Smoot will provide in his new role next football season. Radio appearances, show appearances, etc.

Smoot, 45, is probably best known off the field for his Minnesota Love Boat incident when he was on the Vikings. Here is a good link to that if you have no idea what I’m talking about.

On the field, he was a really good cornerback for an extended period of time. Smoot was a second round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and played nine seasons in the league. He notched 21 career interceptions in 129 total games. The Mississippi State product was drafted by Washington but spent two seasons in Minnesota before ending his career with the Redskins.

Feel free to comment on this one. Do you think this will be a smart hire by Barstool or did they waste their money? Let your voice be heard and let those comments fly!
