Baltimore Ravens to sign Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson

The long season for wide receiver DeSean Jackson continues here in 2022. The 35-year-old veteran is signing with the Baltimore Ravens, giving Lamar Jackson, Jr. another speed weapon. This will the 15th season in the NFL for Jackson.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report:

Back in April, DeSean said he was considering retirement but was open to playing in the right situation. He wanted to find a team with a good quarterback situation of course. The Ravens signing comes as somewhat of a surprise. While Lamar is one of the top quarterbacks in the league, DeSean expressed wanting to play for the Philadelphia Eagles or Green Bay Packers.

While DeSean is getting up in age, he’s always been known for the speed threat and has proven to have some left in the tank. In 2021, he split time between the Los Angeles Rams and Las Vegas Raiders. He totaled just 20 catches for 454 yards with two touchdowns between the two teams. However, he played a key role in the Raiders offense that helped them clinch their first playoff berth since 2016.

It’ll be year 15 for DeSean, who was drafted back in 2008 by the Eagles. He spent the first six years of his career there, earning second-team All-Pro honors in 2009. He spent the rest of his career with Washington and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, before returning to the Eagles for a year in 2019.

In his career, he has recorded 632 receptions for 11,110 yards and 58 touchdowns with an average of 17.6 yards per catch. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler, being one of the best deep ball threats of his generation.

DeSean will now join a Ravens team that’s struggling with passing yards. They’re averaging a rough 205.7 passing yards per game, 24th in the NFL. Regardless of his age, a speed option like DeSean could be exactly what they need.
