Dosunmu, who the Bulls drafted in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft, has proven to be a serviceable guard in his two NBA seasons. As a rookie, Dosunmu earned All-Rookie Second Team honors. In his sophomore season, he averaged 8.6 points, 2.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game.
Dosunmu played a large role in the Bulls’ backcourt last season. The Illinois product played in 80 games and cracked the starting lineup 51 times. While it is unclear if he will start next season, Dosunmu will certainly play significant minutes.
The Bulls have had an active offseason. The majority of this activity has been spent re-signing important pieces of the roster. This began with center Nikola Vucevic signing a three-year, $60 million extension. Additionally, guard Coby White was brought back on a three-year, $40 million deal.
The Bulls also add new pieces in free agency. The signing of guard Jevon Carter headlined the outside help that the Bulls acquired.
While the Bulls have tossed around a lot of money this offseason, Dosunmu will not hurt the team’s pocketbook. At an approximate annual value of $7 million, Dosunmu is an inexpensive piece of the Bulls roster.
The Bulls now have quite a few respectable guards under contract, but that is not a bad thing considering they lost Patrick Beverley in free agency. On top of that, Lonzo Ball‘s injury questions raise even more concerns. Dosunmu will be some added insurance in the backcourt for the Bulls.
