Ashton Gillotte is next up to go through the wringer for the 2025 NFL Draft profile series. The draft has already happened, but we’re hitting the last few players left behind so we can publish those draft grades. Let’s agree to skip the charades and get right to the point here? I promise this one won’t take long.
Gillotte, 22, was a three star recruit out of the state of Florida during the 2021 cycle. The Boca Raton native was ranked as the 66th overall edge and 121st overall player in the state. He spent every year with Louisville, but also was a three sport athlete in high school competing in track and field and weightlifting too.
I thought the Combine performance here was pretty revealing. Scouting is about eliminating, not finding. If you have eyes, Gillotte should have been crossed off the list after that showing. The only real positive is that the weightlifting background shows up. Hard to be an edge guy and lack power. Ripping out 24 reps on the bench is a really nice plus.
Checking in at 6-foot-3, 264, with under 32 inch arms, the length really isn’t there. Also, there’s zero burst. We saw plenty of that at the Combine, and it goes way further than just refusing to run. No short area wow factor at all. I think a lot of his strength comes from his hands rather than being a strong base and closing off in the run game. If his bull rush doesn’t win, then he’s not winning at all.
His 2023 was better than his 2024, so there still feels like a bit of a range of outcome here. 4.5 sacks last year compared to 11 the year before. Which guy are you really getting?
I’m not very high on this player. It’s all power with no juice. To pick a guy like this in the third round feels like a total reach. I watched plenty of Louisville and was just never a factor for me.
