Sports Media
Combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani has agreed to a partnership with Yahoo Sports. The landmark content of the deal will be “Uncrowned“, the platform’s new combat sports brand.
Yahoo Sports announced the news on X.
Helwani is the biggest name in combat sports media. In his career, he has worked for MMAFighting, ESPN, Fox Sports, and others. He was the company’s primary MMA voice in all of those stops.
The decision to join Yahoo Sports came shortly after his contract with Vox Media, the owners of MMA Fighting, and Spotify expired.
On top of his MMA coverage, Helwani has also worked in boxing, WWE, and other sports.
Uncrowned will be a combat sports brand that covers MMA, boxing, and professional wrestling. Helwani will serve as the site’s executive editor.
“The Ariel Helwani Show” will be the flagship portion of the site. Essentially, the program will be similar to “The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, ” his previous show with MMAFighting. Helwani is even bringing members from MMAFighting to Yahoo Sports. This includes Conner Burks, Eric Jackman, and Frank Lenz.
Uncrowned will also host The Craic with Petesy Carroll. That will be a show purely focused on MMA. The site will also announce boxing and professional wrestling shows in the coming weeks.
Uncrowned will launch on Friday, September 13. The launch episode will be massive as the weekend features UFC 306 and Canelo Álvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga.
