Anthony Edwards isn’t recruiting Kevin Durant to Timberwolves

Time is ticking on Kevin Durant‘s future with the Phoenix Suns. We don’t know when the resolution will be, but the Phoenix Suns are aiming to complete this by next week’s NBA Draft. Though the problem is that the Suns have no leverage, so the San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat and Houston Rockets aren’t meeting Phoenix’s asking price, stalling the process.

However, reportedly, one of the most aggressive suitors for Durant is the Minnesota Timberwolves–whom the 36-year-old has no desire to play for. Kevin Durant is Anthony Edwards‘ idol, though the Timberwolves superstar doesn’t appear to be recruiting the 15-time All-Star up north.

“That’s legitimately an important piece of information,” Windhorst said earlier this week, according to RealGM. “Ant Edwards is not recruiting Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant says he doesn’t want to be in Minnesota. The deal is not done. This is not heading towards Minnesota. Obviously things can change. This is not heading like Durant is going to Minnesota. Spears is making it very clear the way Ant is feeling.

Any deal with the Timberwolves for Durant would be very complicated, especially if the Suns’ soft deadline is next week’s draft. They are currently a second-apron team and won’t have the ability to aggregate salaries until July 1; if Durant is still on the Suns and they are able to find the deal they want with Minnesota by that date, then it could work. For now, that doesn’t appear to be the direction it is headed.

Objectively, watching Durant be the 1B to Edwards’ 1A with that defensive structure is very intriguing. I’m not sure what the trade looks like if Naz Reid and Julius Randle opt out of their respective player options, but that pairing would be objectively fun to watch offensively, especially since Edwards wouldn’t have as great of burden as he previously has.

Miami, San Antonio and Houston (in no order) remain the three frontrunners, barring a surprise team entering the mix. Where do you want to see Durant? Let us know in the comments!
