Andrew Thomas, take a bow. The third-year tackle has taken a massive leap for the Giants in 2022.
You can attribute many different things to why the Giants are 7-2. Obviously, Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley are most people’s No. 1 answers. But Thomas’ growth is a huge reason why the Giants can think about the playoffs.
Playing 100 percent of the offensive snaps, Thomas has been a stalwart behind an offensive line fans can finally feel confident about. The former No. 4 overall pick has only taken a single penalty season, none of which were holding or false starts. Brian Daboll‘s arrival has brought about wholesale improvements to the Giants, and Thomas is one of the best examples of that.
As a third year player, it’s never too early to think about a second contract. Thomas is only 23, and looks set to be a face of the Giants franchise for the long haul. For once, Dave Gettleman did something good for the franchise.
PFF (sorry Trey) has given Thomas an 89.6 grade on the season. He turned heads at the start of the season after they ranked him as the No. 1 graded offensive player in football. He has since cooled off, but that doesn’t change the fact that Thomas is now competing with the likes of Trent Williams and Tyron Smith at the left tackle position. As a result, his extension in a few years is gonna resemble that price point.
Look, I know the Giants aren’t perfect. They make mistakes just like every other team but 2022 has given them something to finally be happy about. Replacing Joe Judge and Gettleman with Joe Schoen and Daboll would have simply been enough. However, the former Bills pair have the New York Giants rebuild well ahead of schedule. The play of Andrew Thomas could be one of the key reasons why they’re looked upon as a threat in the NFC.
