Andre Drummond has had a fantastic 12-year career in the NBA. He was drafted ninth overall in by the Detroit Pistons in the 2012 NBA Draft. He spent his first eight seasons there before bouncing from team to team seemingly every year. Now, Andre Drummond finds himself on the Philadelphia 76ers ahead of the 2024-2025 NBA season. He talked about his excitement for the season talking at 76ers media even dropping the bold claim he was the best rebounder of all time.
Now, this is a bold take as there have been some amazing rebounders throughout history. Andre Drummond does average a career 12.4 rebounds per game and has a career 10,671 rebounds under his belt. Also, he is a two time All-Star, has one third team All-NBA, and has four rebounding titles. His best four rebounding seasons happened in Detroit where he led the league in 2015-16 (14.8 rpg), 2017-18 (16 rpg ), 2018-19 (15.6 rpg), and 2019-20 (15.2 rpg).
These were truly historic numbers that helped him capture his four rebounding titles. Drummond’s four rebounding titles has him tied with Bill Russell and Kevin Garnett as the only players with four titles. Also, two more quick stats are his career high rebounds in a game is 29 and he led the 2018-19 playoffs in rebounds with 13. Finally, Andre Drummond has a special talent for cleaning the glass. It has been his best skill since he entered the league and there’s a great chance he keeps adding to his fantastic number with the 76ers this season.
The best player of any NBA stat category is always going to be subjective and up for debate. Andre Drummond thinks he has done enough to claim he is the best. However, there are players such as Wilt Chamberlain, Moses Malone, Dennis Rodman and Dwight Howard that have incredible stats of their own. For instance, Chamberlain has 11 career rebounding titles and Rodman has a record seven straight rebounding titles.
It was always a bold statement for Drummond to claim he is the best given the legends that played in the past. However, he is no doubt one of the best rebounders of his generation. Also, he still has more seasons ahead of him so he can continue to climb the All-time ranks. Ultimately, I love the self-belief of Andre Drummond and he has done enough in his career to have his name in the best rebounders ever conversations.
