The American League Central preview is here, the last preview for the 2021 season as we are in the middle of spring training and the season is just a few weeks away.
The White Sox have had a very odd offseason so far, and not for the best reasons. They hired Tony LaRussa, the former Cardinal manager replaces Rick Renteria who was a runner up for AL manager of the year in 2020. The White Sox finished 2nd in the division in 2020.
Tim Anderson is one of the most electric players in baseball, so between Anderson and Luis Roberts, the rookie of the year runner-up, there is a young core in Chicago that can make this team contenders. Jose Abreu will give their lineup some pop in the middle, and bringing in Adam Eaton will help sure up their outfield
They traded for Lance Lynn to give them a legitimate 3rd starter to pitch behind Lucas Giolito and Dallas Keuchel
Prediction: This team can easily win 85 plus games and I see them sitting around the low 90’s and that should be enough for them to win the division.
I really don’t think this team and ownership group deserves to win, they traded their franchise player Francisco Lindor to the Mets, and Carlos Carrasco went with him. They do not want to pay any of their elite players and that sucks for the Indian fans.
They still have Shane Bieber and Jose Ramirez, but this team is going to struggle in a 162 game season just because of the on field talent. They got two shortstops from the Mets in Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez, but that duo can not replace Lindor
Prediction: This is a sub .500 team no matter how you look at it, Terry Francona can not work his magic for this roster and this ownership group.
This team is one of the few that I think can rival the White Sox in 2021. They made some offseason moves to bring in Andrew Benintendi and Carlos Santana.
They still have Salvador Perez behind the plate who led the American League catchers in home runs in the shortened 2020 season while playing in only 37 games. They have a guy who can get on base in Michael Taylor and they hope that will have more RBI chances for Jorge Soler and the new guys.
Prediction: If this team can bring in some starting pitching in the season they will be a legitimate threat in the division, but without that they will be .500 and on the outside come October.
They hired AJ Hinch, the former Astro manager who was involved in those cheating scandals in Houston. That isn’t going to make this team an immediate winner, they will still be far from it.
This team still has Miguel Cabrera in the heart of the lineup which is crazy since we are in 2021, They signed Wilson Ramos and their roster is pretty dry other then those two names.
Prediction: This team will finish last in the division, I really don’t see this team being competitive at all.
This will be the White Sox biggest competition for the division crown this year. The Twins are loaded with power in the middle of their lineup. They brought in Josh Donaldson to help Nelson Cruz and Miguel Sano score runs.
The rotation with Kenta Maeda at the top is solid, they also brought in J.A. Happ so they will have decent arms to start and try and get them deep into games.
Prediction: The Twins won the division in 2020 by one game, but they will need to be better over a longer season to beat the White Sox, this team will win between 80 and 85 games and finish second this year.
TL//DR: American League Central Preview is live and the White Sox look to be the team to beat.
