It was revealed a few days ago that Alex Pietrangelo was going to be skipping the 4 Nations Tournament. He’s the first player to withdraw from the tournament without a serious injury behind it as Pietrangelo is still skating around 24 minutes a night with the Golden Knights.
However, in a recent interview, Pietrangelo explained exactly why he’s skipping the tournament.
“It wasn’t just like an immediate decision. It’s just been dealing with something for a while now I just think In my head talking to the team and doctors gives me the chance to stay on the ice healthy, especially in the second half of the year.”
“I mean you have nine days off and if I need to take more days before the first game after the break that’s a long period of time to get some rest and kinda get rid of what I’m dealing with.”
“It sucks. Representing your country is an honor. The kids were excited. The wife was excited. But it is what it is. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions. “
It sounds like Pietrangelo is dealing with some sort of groin injury. Something he can play on but it’s going to be progressively worse if he keeps playing on it. Getting the necessary rest to gear up for another Stanley Cup run is a no-brainer.
Let’s be real about this. Nobody cares about this 4 Nations tournament. It’s totally made up and nonsense. Wake me up when the Olympics come back. if Pietrangelo could convince the rest of his teammates in Vegas to skip this stupid ass tournament, that would be ideal.
