The Arizona Coyotes have an interesting string of weeks recently, especially regarding forward Alex Galchenyuk. After his release from the Coyotes and arrest for a hit-and-run, Galchenyuk reportedly made threatening remarks to a police officer.
Arizona recently released a statement on the 29-year-old’s release.
“We are aware of the incident involving Alex Galchenyuk and strongly condemn this type of behavior,” Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong said Friday. “Once the club was made aware of the allegations, we immediately began the process of terminating his standard player’s contract through the proper channels in conjunction with the National Hockey League. As a result, the Arizona Coyotes today have exercised the team’s right to terminate the contract of Alex Galchenyuk due to a material breach of the terms of his standard player’s contract. The club will have no further comment at this time.”
The former third overall pick faces charges of hit and run, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and threatening and failure to obey.
Galchenyuk allegedly threatened an officer who responded to the situation, according to 12News, saying he would “chop” and cut out the kidneys of the officer’s family members.
Galchenyuk would later continue his barrage towards the officer by threatening him in an even more gruesome way.
“I will end your bloodline,” the suspect allegedly told Scottsdale police. “One phone call and you’re dead.”
Galchenyuk is yet to make an official public statement following the incident.
Galchenyuk was set to begin his third stint in a Coyotes uniform. Back in the 2018-19 season, Galchenyuk attempted to save his career with Arizona, putting up 19 goals and 41 points in 72 games. After bouncing around the league for four more seasons, Galchenyuk would find himself back in Arizona, where he put up 21 points in 60 games.
Now, with the nature of his arrest revealed, Galchenyuk is unlikely to sign with another team. He has shown that he can’t produce on the ice, and now he has become a liability off of it.
