AEW Rampage Preview (7/22/22): Rap Battle Set for the Show

AEW Rampage is the final show of the two-week Fyter Fest Event, which consisted of four total shows over a two-week span. Every show has a pay-per-view quality feel to it and this one is right before Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor, which is Saturday, July 23. That is the first show for ROH since Tony Khan bought the company. The ROH Death Before Dishonor match card is stacked, so AEW Rampage will be a nice warm-up to that. Here’s what to expect heading into the show.

Austin Gunn vs Max Caster in a Rap Battle

Austin Gunn and the Gunn Club recently turned on the Acclaimed (Max Caster & Anthony Bowens). The two groups joined forces a couple of months ago and it was a blast. They were extremely entertaining together, but the Gunn Club ended it all when they turned on the Acclaimed. The Acclaimed got their revenge by attacking the Gunn Club on AEW Rampage last week. Before we get the match, we’re getting a rap battle. When Max Caster isn’t wrestling, he’s making music. He raps as he walks down to the ring, taking shots at his opponents. This segment should be a blast because these men are always entertaining when they’re together.

Britt Baker & Jamie Hayter in Action

Britt Baker recently made her return to AEW television. She is immediately targeting AEW Women’s Champion, Thunder Rosa. Baker is a former AEW Women’s Champion in her own right, so she’s trying to find her way back to the top. This match is most likely going to be against two jobbers. Usually when AEW advertises it as “in action”, it is also a squash match. I fully expect that to be the case with this one and for us to get Baker and Hayter versus Toni Storm and Thunder Rosa in the future. That being said, I think this will be a good match and will lead to good matches in the future.

Lee Moriarty vs Dante Martin

Lee Moriarty is coming off of a tough loss to the ROH World Champion, Jonathan Gresham. He had a chance to capture gold but fell short in the end. He is looking to gain some momentum with a win against one of AEW’s hottest prospects. Matt Sydal has taken on Moriarty as a mentor/manager figure. He has done the same for Dante Martin in the past. Martin is looking to prove he isn’t just a prospect and that he is the real deal. Martin has over 50 career wins in AEW, so a win against a man who just fought for a world title, could put him in the top five rankings.

Jay Lethal vs Christopher Daniels

Jay Lethal is set to face ROH Television Champion, Samoa Joe, for the title at Death Before Dishonor. Before that, he faces Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe’s best friend. Lethal has been taking shots at Joe every week while he’s been out with injury. Daniels finally had enough and challenged Lethal to a match for AEW Rampage. Daniels is a veteran of professional wrestling and wrestled in ROH for a good amount of his career. This is going to be no easy task for Lethal, especially the night before he has to take on Samoa Joe. I’m expecting Joe to turn up at AEW Rampage to confront Lethal to help build to their match.

The Butcher & The Blade vs John Silver & Hangman Page

John Silver and Alex Reynolds were poking fun at the Butcher and the Blade during an interview on AEW Dynamite. Eventually, enough was enough and the Butcher and the Blade attacked Silver and Reynolds. Hangman Page came to the rescue to help fend off the attack. The match was made official and now these four men are going to be going at it. The Butcher and the Blade are one of the tag teams that have been in AEW since the start. They have over 40 wins as a team in AEW, but they have a tough assignment in Hangman Page and John Silver. Page is a former AEW World Champion and has over 50 wins along with John Silver who also has over 50 wins. Although Silver and Page are friends, they don’t team up that often. That’s where the Butcher and the Blade are going to have the advantage.
