Adam Silver Cares Too Much About Parity

I always find the NBA GM Survey fascinating. It’s one thing to hear what some dumbass says on TV. The survey tackles a ton of key topics right from the people who are making decisions. They usually don’t lie on these either because they’re anonymous. AKA why the Celtics are viewed as the overwhelming favorites heading into this season. I just wish that Adam Silver wasn’t a coward because right now I’d argue he’s the biggest problem with the league.

Since Silver has taken over the reins from David Stern, it’s turned into a players league. They make the rules and sit out games because of load management. The players control the league and it’s just not a business model that works in any other setting.

Anyway… GM’s were asked about one thing they would change. They say the new CBA is terrible and the rules are now too restrictive. The new CBA is designed to create more parity and Silver continues to defend the new rules.

“The goal, in essence, is that every team, regardless of market size, has a roughly equal chance to compete, and to run a rational business,” Silver said. “It seems to be working so far.”

“For fans, the goal is certainly not to stop dynasties, but by drafting well, potentially by trading well, is there a different type of dynasty that’s created?” he posited.

Nobody with an IQ above 40 agrees with Silver. Love or hate, fans want to see the best players and best teams on when the games matter. Sorry, not sorry, but the NBA does better when the Celtics and Lakers meet in the Finals compared to the Cavs and Jazz. It is what it is.

Players are going to continue to cheat the system. What Jalen Brunson did with his contract will be what players do going forward. By creating a system that’s designed to tear teams down only feeds into the BS internet trolls that spend hours upon hours on the trade machine rather than actually caring about the games themselves. How Silver doesn’t see that is asinine but whatever.
