Aaron Judge’s toe injury could take three years to fully heal

Even though Aaron Judge is set to return to the Yankees lineup later this week. He believes that it will be years before the ligaments in his toe are fully healthy again. Information that Yankee fans cannot afford to hear.

“The injury takes a year or two years or three years (to fully heal), and I still think you feel that,” Judge said. “You never know what it’s going to feel like. I can’t see the future.”

Early in June, Judge injured his toe running into the outfield wall while attempting to make a catch. The initial hope was that it was just a strain leading to him only missing a few games. As time passed, it was revealed to be a torn ligament causing the former MVP to miss extended time.

Despite the very long timetable for this injury, Judge has expressed a desire to play through the injury and suit up as early as the end of the month, although he has not ruled out the possibility of needing surgery during the offseason.

“There’s talk of surgery, but I don’t think we’re at that (point),” he said. “I’m not a doctor. I have no idea. They throw around eight different things.”

If an injury is naturally supposed to take up to three years to heal, I don’t know how you don’t get surgery. I don’t know what the pain level is but a torn ligament in the toe can’t feel good. Couldn’t even imagine dealing with that for multiple years as an athlete.

But despite everything said, it’s clear that Judge will be back playing again soon. I don’t know what the pain level is, but if he’s suiting up, it’s at least manageable.

Prior to the injury, Aaron Judge was hitting .291 with a 1.078 OPS and 19 home runs. Going 13-13 in his absence, the Yankees have done a good job at treading water. But in a uber competitive AL East, they will need all the help they can get. Judge should be just that.

Let’s just hope the injury doesn’t affect his MVP-level play for the rest of the year. I know Yankee fans will be.
