There is just something about that purple that makes former Packers go crazy. Maybe it’s just me but Packer cast-offs just can’t help but to go to the dark side. Brett Favre, Greg Jennings, Za’Darius Smith, etc. Well, add Aaron Jones to that list.
After being released by the Packers, Jones is signing a one year deal to join Minnesota. The news was first reported by Adam Schefter at ESPN. The former UTEP product will earn $7 million over the course of the one year agreement.
Let’s break each team down here really quickly. Jones is instantly the RB1 in Minnesota. The team released Alexander Mattison this offseason. The backfield with the Vikings will consist of Jones, Ty Chandler, Cam Akers, and DeWayne McBride. There is no question that this team missed prime Dalvin Cook last year. Maybe Jones can come in and replicate that. He’s always been a plus receiver out of the backfield.
For Green Bay, I’m sure it stings to watch Jones go to the Vikings. Certainly not ideal. Of course, they will rock with Josh Jacobs next year. Jones isn’t the only one gone. AJ Dillon is out there in free agency and isn’t expected to return.
It’s going to be fun when these teams battle it out next year. Jones visiting the Packers twice a year? It should be fun.
In 2023, Jones, 29, carried the ball 142 times and picked up 656 rushing yards and two touchdowns in 11 games. He also reeled in 30 receptions for 233 receiving yards and one touchdown.
