Ezekiel Elliott Wants To Be A Cowboy For Life

Will Ezekiel Elliott be on the field for the Cowboys when the season opens Week 1? That’s looking less and less likely by the day. Zeke is still holding out for a new contract and wants to break the Todd Gurley mark. Gurley cashed in 4-year extension worth $57.5 million. Zeke wants to break that mark. Dallas isn’t willing to do so.

If it were up to Zeke, he would be a Cowboy for life but is willing to play for another team if that’s the way things go:

“I love playing for the Dallas Cowboys. I love the organization, my teammates,” Elliott told Gordon via Maxim. “I do want to be a Cowboy for the rest of my life, and hopefully that’s a possibility. But even Emmitt Smith, the greatest running back ever, ended up going to play a couple of years for another organization. So it’s just the nature of the game, but I want to be a Dallas Cowboy for as long as I can.”

“Until the very recent deal with Todd Gurley, I think there was an undervalue of the running back,” Elliott said. “But with guys like Gurley getting drafted so high, then me, and now guys like Saquon [Barkley] getting drafted in the first round. I think we’ve done a great job of bringing back the value of the position, showing the importance of the running back.”

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Zeke is the best running back in football. Elliott is entering his 4th year in the NFL. Zeke led the league in rushing 2 of his first 3 years in the NFL. The only year he didn’t, he was suspended 6 games and still led the league in rushing yards per game. He’s the one running back that makes the offense go.

He’s also the one elite running back I would pay. Zeke is still very much in his prime. Just 24-years-young. There’s no reason why a 4 year extension isn’t feasible. Even adding two more years onto his current contract could make sense too. Dallas has to get this done. They’re probably screwed this year without him.
