Washington Redskins 2019 NFL Training Camp Preview

Washington Redskins

Can Derrius Guice turn into a starting caliber running back? The Washington Redskins sure hope so. Let’s dive into their training camp preview (Geoff Burke/USA TODAY Sports)

The Washington Redskins have a new quarterback. His name is Dwayne Haskins. The question in when will he start? That’s what camp is all about. Actually, let me not spoil the surprise yet. This is it. The final training camp preview. Let’s take a look at the Washington Redskins and finish off this series.

3 Position Battles To Watch:

Quarterback: Dwayne Haskins, Case Keenum, Alex Smith, Colt McCoy

Alex Smith isn’t playing football again. Colt McCoy isn’t very good. Case Keenum is going to be the bridge quarterback. Dwayne Haskins sees the field in Week 4. There’s my prediction.

Middle Linebacker: Shaun Dion-Hamilton, Josh Harvey-Clemons, Jon Bostic

Mason Foster? Cut. Zach Brown? Also, let go. In the Redskins 3-4 defense, two of these guys has to start. Bostic has turned into a journeyman of sorts but can fill a spot. Josh Harvey-Clemons is a former safety. Is that what you want in the middle of the defense? Dion-Hamilton is actually really underrated. He got lost in the shuffle at the University of Alabama but has proved he can play. I think Dion-Hamilton gets one of the spots and plays better than anticipated.

Cornerback: Jimmy Moreland, Fabian Moreau, Greg Stroman, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

Washington is spending a ton of money on Landon Collins and Josh Norman. It’s the other corners that have a chance to make it an elite group. I have no idea how Rodgers-Cromartie is still in the league. He’s been in the NFL forever. The Moreland, Moreau, Stroman combo is all made up of young guns that will all get their shot.

Ready To Breakout: Derrius Guice

Derrius Guice missed the entire season tearing his ACL in the 2018 preseason. I think he takes the starting job and runs with it. Over 1,000 yards at 4.5 per carry sounds right. Maybe it takes him some extra time to recover. Still, I think people are sleeping on him. At this point, Adrian Peterson shouldn’t be better than Guice.

Rookie To Watch: Terry McLaurin

Terry McLaurin has the Ohio State connection with Haskins. I want to see if that carries over to the NFL. McLaurin has great speed and is electric on special teams. Washington doesn’t have a reliable target on the roster. McLaurin has a chance to carve out a real role right away.

Fantasy Sleeper: Bryce Love

I don’t know where Bryce Love stands on this roster. I don’t even know if he plays in his rookie year. What I do know is if Stanford Love comes back from 2017, watch out. I hope that guy still exists. If he does, it is a no brainer to draft him.
