Ryan Fitzpatrick is maybe known as the biggest hold and cold player in NFL history. When Fitzpatrick is hot, he’s really hot. When Fitzpatrick is cold, it’s hard to wonder how he made the NFL in the first place. Fitzpatrick, 36, enters the 2019-2020 season in a battle for the Dolphins starting quarterback spot with Josh Rosen. Fitzpatrick not only feels like the job is his, he feels like he’s being totally disrespected along the way.
“There’s been a lot of shade and disrespect thrown my way for a lot of years,” Fitzpatrick told Joe Rose of WQAM, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
If we really think about it, Fitzy is kind of right. This is a guy who carved out a 15-year career and counting as a former 7th round draft pick from Harvard. He’s spent time as a starting and time collecting checks as a high profile back up. Fitzpatrick has completed 60 percent of his throws during his career along with a TD-INT ratio of 190-148. By the end of his Dolphins contract, Fitzy will rake in $69 million during his NFL career. If that isn’t the American dream, then I don’t know what is.
I honestly would not be surprised if Fitzpatrick won the Dolphins job. We know what he is. He’s just never consistent. Regardless, Fitzpatrick has every right to feel disrespected. What a career. If anything is clear, Dolphin fans should feel better about Fitzpatrick and or Rosen than they ever did with Ryan Tannehill under center.
