Dak Prescott divulges new nickname for Dallas Cowboys offense

Dak Prescott divulges new nickname for Dallas Cowboys offense

After Kellen Moore parted ways with the Dallas Cowboys after last season, the team has revamped their offense into something new. With the shift, they have given their offense a nickname: the Texas Coast.

Following Moore’s departure, head coach Mike McCarthy will be taking over Dallas’ offensive play calling. McCarthy called the plays back in Green Bay for 13 years.

In the past few seasons, the Cowboys offense has been one of the top units in the league, including the best offense in terms of yards in 2019 and 2021. The Dallas offense also ranked first in points in 2021, thanks to Moore and quarterback Dak Prescott.

Prescott was asked Wednesday if he truly “owns” the offense with Moore out of the picture. His response was pretty certain.

“I think I’m in a good spot,” Prescott said, via Schuyler Dixon of the Associated Press, via PFT.com. “There’s more to grow. I’ll use these five weeks to make sure I’m crossing my T’s and dotting my I’s. But I feel like when you have Mike, as open as he is about communicating, making sure I know what I like, what’s at the top of my chart, maybe what I don’t feel great about, it’s been pretty easy to make sure that I’m doing that and I’m mastering what I’m good at. I feel great at the things we’ve put in that we’ve done. I’m saying own it but want to own it more.”

As the offense turns the page, Prescott said the Cowboys have come up with a new look and name for it.

“Funny, this is the Texas Coast,” Prescott said of the offense’s nickname, via PFT.com. “We just renamed it that, the quarterbacks. It’s got definitely some West Coast principles, but has a little bit of what we’ve done in the past and just obviously marrying them together with a lot of detail and maybe in a sense, a system that’s not out there. So there you go.”

With the change in personnel and offensive tools, the Cowboys look to invest in their “Texas Coast” offense and bring a fire to 2024.
