Jacob deGrom to Undergo Tommy John Surgery
Sigh …. Just a couple of days ago I was writing my article about Jacob deGrom being moved to the 60-day injured list. It wasn’t ideal news but the hope was that he may be able to come back later in the season and aid the Rangers on a likely playoff run.
But now, even that won’t happen, with it being reported that deGrom will have toundergo Tommy John surgery, meaning yet another season will end early for the 34-year-old on account of an injury.

The exact timetable of his return is still unclear. But it’s seeming very likely that deGrom won’t be pitching again this season — especially with these injuries usually taking a year to recover from.
DeGrom is so exciting to watch when he’s at his best. He’s easily one of the best pitchers in MLB when he’s going out every five days. But man, those injuries do come quickly.
I suppose it kind of makes sense, I mean, a man of his build making a baseball move like that? It’s not surprising that his arm is starting to give out on him a little.
The Rangers have seemingly played fine without him, but any fan would be lying if they said they didn’t want his arm come playoff time. It may not be felt now, but the loss of deGrom is one that will be felt over the course of the season.
The possibility of a late-season return gave fans a reason to hold out hope. But now those are crushed and it has to be a huge gut punch to not only the fans but deGrom himself. It seems like his body/arm is giving out and before long he won’t be able to pitch anymore.
The Rangers better hope that’s not the case. They have a lot of time and money invested in him. But another big injury/setback could be the end for Jacob deGrom. Here’s to hoping he bounces back once again.
