The Baltimore Ravens won on Sunday in the short term but in reality, they lost in the long term. This Lamar Jackson thing is a joke. Jackson made his first start on Sunday and it’s pretty clear that he will be nothing more than a gimmick guy in the NFL. Jackson threw the ball 19 times on Sunday and ran the ball 27 times. Let’s see how that works a year from now. 73 percent of those runs came on designed runs.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis had an interesting comment on Jackson that I agree with:
“Quarterbacks don’t run forever in the NFL,” Lewis said after his team’s 24-21 loss in Baltimore. “Sooner or later, they get hurt, and they don’t run the same. But today he could run, and he did a good job.”
I don’t like Marvin Lewis either but he’s right. Think of all of the dynamic running quarterbacks in the NFL. Donovan McNabb, Randall Cunningham, and Michael Vick. What do they have in common? Zero Super Bowl titles and at least one season-ending injury. That’s assuming Jackson is even on that level which he is not. Jackson never completed 60 percent of his throws in college. If you watch him play, he has no clue what he’s doing unless he’s running.
The most hilarious part of this is that the Ravens stockpiled on this type of quarterback. Yeah, let’s also sign RG3 to be his mentor. Nothing like a guy that knows how to protect himself. The moment the Ravens drafted Jackson, I have thrown away my fandom for the Ravens. John Harbaugh is going to lose his job. Ozzie Newsome forgot how to draft. This organization is turning into a joke. If you’re on the Lamar Jackson bandwagon, jump off now or you will look stupid.
