Someone didn’t enjoy playing with Russell Westbrook? You don’t say. I mean who wouldn’t love standing in a corner watching Westbrook pad his stats and lose. What could be better than that! Russell Westbrook is a cancer. It’s really not that hard to figure out. Finally, we had someone other than Kevin Durant come out and say it.
Here is an excerpt from Royce Young of ESPN when he breaks down the year-long recruitment to keep Paul George in an Oklahoma City Thunder uniform:
“[ESPN] – His concerns about the mix are not unfounded: Plenty of former teammates have privately grumbled about Westbrook’s playing style, their frustrations centered on his stubbornness and single-minded approach. He wants to win more than anyone on the court, but his desire to win can complicate the outcome. This is the crux of the For Russ/Against Russ debate.”
“It wasn’t always fun,” one former teammate says. “The first few years [I played with him], it was. But things got more and more out of control.”
For those of you who can’t fathom the fact that Russell Westbrook is a deterrent to winning; let me break it down for you. Last year Russell Westbrook shot .449 percent from the floor. That included an anemic .298 percent from 3-point range. The year prior when Westbrook somehow won the MVP despite being a 6 seed in the West, he shot .425 percent from the floor and .343 from downtown.
If Westbrook was a team, he would rank 24th out of 30 teams in the NBA for overall field goal percentage. Add in that only the Clippers shot a worse team 3-point percentage than what Westbrook did. This is a make or miss league. When you convert shots on a below league average level, you are not a good basketball player. Also, add in that Westbrook doesn’t pass and continues to make teammates worse.
This is not hard to understand. Dynamic point guard who can’t shoot and doesn’t pass. Westbrook will only continue to be a cancer and the Oklahoma City Thunder are screwed as long as he is on the roster. Case closed.
