76ers, Bryan Colangelo Decide To Part Ways

The Bryan Colangelo era is finally over! The 76ers and Colangelo has decided to part ways (James Lang/USA TODAY Sports)

Hey, Bryan! Yeah, I’m going to need you to pack your things. After an ongoing investigation into whether Bryan Colangelo was guilty of using five burner accounts to release private information within the organization, the two parties have decided to part ways.

Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the news:

Woj describes the divorce as a resignation by Colangelo. It’s pretty clear that he was involved in some way. With him gone, Brett Brown will now be in charge of personnel decisions for the time being. It’s hard not to wonder how things would have turned out if the league never ran out Sam Hinkie.

Here’s a quote from Jeff Goodman of ESPN that details what may have caused the breakup.

“Independent investigating firm hired by 76ers: “The evidence supports the conclusion that Ms. Barbara Bottini, Mr. Colangelo’s wife, established the Twitter accounts & posted content on those accounts. When interviewed, Ms. Bottini admitted establishing & operating the accounts.”

76ers fans can’t be really upset with what happened here. Colangelo has done nothing but made terrible decisions while in charge of the franchise. The trade swap of Markelle Fultz and Jayson Tatum leads that charge. Imagine how good the 76ers could be with Tatum at the charge for the franchise as the primary scoring option. That trade alone should have gotten Colangelo fired anyway.

It looks like the investigation could not prove that Colangelo was involved but the quote that Goodman shared kinda set his own grave. At this point, I wonder if David Griffin is the best bet for the new general manager job. That could be the door opener for an eventual LeBron James incoming partnership.
