The 2026 Super Bowl to be held in San Francisco
After a high-action Super Bowl in 2023 between Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs against Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles, the location for Super Bowl 60 in 2026 was disclosed Thursday. It will be held in San Francisco, per Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal.
Super Bowls 58 and 59 were previously announced for Las Vegas and New Orleans, respectively.
It will be the third time the San Francisco area will hold the Super Bowl. The last time was in 2016 for Super Bowl 50, which was a snoozefest. It resulted in a 24-10 Denver Broncos victory over the Carolina Panthers. The only remarkable moments of Super Bowl 50 were that Von Miller was only the fourth linebacker in history to win the Super Bowl MVP and that Peyton Manning won the big game in his final game.
The first time was in 1985 for Super Bowl 19, but not at Levi’s Stadium, which first opened in 2014. Super Bowl 19 was held at Stanford Stadium between the 15-1 San Francisco 49ers and 14-2 Miami Dolphins between Hall of Famer head coaches Don Shula and Bill Walsh.
It was another one-sided Super Bowl as the 49ers defeated the Dolphins, 38-16. Other Hall of Fame players who played in that game were center Dwight Stephenson, Dan Marino, defensive end Fred Dean, safety Ronnie Lott and quarterback Joe Montana.
The Los Angeles Rams have previously campaigned for hosting Super Bowl 61 in SoFi Stadium, though it won’t be announced until a later date. Regardless, as the NFL has changed in offensive game planning and games are higher scoring than ever before, it is possible that the Super Bowl in 2026 could be very different.
