O’Cyrus Torrence 2023 Draft Profile

We covered the top OT prospect, Peter Skoronski, so this week is the top OG prospect, O’Cyrus Torrence. It is safe to say he is without a doubt going to be the first OG picked in this year’s NFL draft and at the moment, he’s a late first-rounder.

Torrence, the first unanimous All-American guard in Florida history, is moving to the NFL this year along with a lot of other foundational talents. Although he might be the most NFL-ready guard there is.

After transferring to the SEC to become a Florida Gator he immediately started gaining fame as one of the best interior linemen and the stats show it. Throughout his whole collegiate career, he did not allow a single sack across 46 starts. However, it wasn’t Torrence’s pass protection that gained him recognition, but rather his run blocking. Because of this he was invited to the Senior Bowl this year and showcased his skills even more.

Strengths

  • Powerful and accurate first punch
  • Strong, heavy hands
  • Dominates the run game; the best in this class
  • Quick first step
  • Aggressive through and through
  • Size, 6’5 and 330 pounds

Weaknesses

  • Athleticism, Torrence is built like a mountain and moves like one too
  • Can’t keep up with speed
  • Overextends in pass pro, not as dominant as his run blocking
  • Not able to move as effectively laterally, especially in pass pro
  • Slower reaction time needed for pass protection
  • Tends to try and overpower the defender by planting his feet instead of driving
  • Some concerns he might he scheme specific

NFL

I personally am ready to see Torrence at the next level, especially for some of these teams later in the first round. The earliest I believe he lands on the board is for the 16th pick by the Washington Commanders just to increase their foundation. Other than that, the Seattle Seahawks could use their second pick at 20 to beef up that line to both protect Geno Smith and create gaps for the impressive Kenneth Walker III.

Even then, the Jacksonville Jags at 24, Buffalo Bills at 27, and Cincinnati Bengals at 28 should invest in a guy like O’Cyrus Torrence. If he falls to one of those three that would mean bad news for the other AFC teams since an NFL-ready guard would fall into the hands of these already powerful teams.
