New Music Friday (3/24/23) Includes Juice WRLD, 6LACK and More

Juice WRLD – The Light

On this week’s New Music Friday, Juice WRLD headlines the new releases with his new single, “The Light”.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Juice WRLD’s music, however, this just feels dragged out. There are plenty of other people who feel the same way. His quality of music has declined since he no longer has a say in what gets released. The same applies here with his new release this New Music Friday, “The Light”. It has a good love song message, but just doesn’t strike me as anything worth listening to or adding to any playlist.

6LACK – Since I Have A Lover

6LACK returns with 19 new songs this New Music Friday on his newest album, Since I Have A Lover. It’s mostly a solo performance throughout the whole album besides two features from QUIN and Don Toliver. Unfortunately, it sounds like standard 6LACK which personally I find a little disappointing after a five-year difference from his last album.

Even then, this could be a good thing if are a hardcore 6LACK fan. Some tracks I would recommend are “playin house”, “Fatal Attraction” and “Temporary” (ft. Don Toliver).

NLE Choppa – AIN’T GONNA ANSWER ft Lil Wayne

One of my favorite singles from this New Music Friday — both NLE and Lil Wayne brought amazing performances on this track with Wayne being introduced into the song with his signature lighter. NLE brought a nice flow, while Lil Wayne came with some one-liner lyrics that bring an appreciative balance to the song.

Iann Dior – Do It All

Iann Dior delivered a pretty basic, but I will say catchy song. It’s 1:36, so it doesn’t feel dragged out. It’s short and sweet in the best way possible. This single gives off a Kid LAROI kind of vibe with similar performance and theme, so if that style is something you like, give this a listen.

Internet Money – I Remember ft Kodak Black and Roddy Ricch

This was kind of a “meh” listen. Nothing special, nothing particularly bad. “I Remember” was definitely the most disappointing release of this week and should not demand prioritization to listen.

BIA – I’m That Bitch ft Timbaland

BIA did not leave anything in the studio after she recorded this song. The way she raps doesn’t make this sound like the annoying bad bitch energy that other female rappers encompass. As you can tell from the title, that is the theme she went for, but it sounded much better.

Production-wise, that was handled by Timbaland, but this was a much different type of beat we are used to from him as he tapped into the New York drill music scene as inspiration. Overall, this was probably one of the better listens to this New Music Friday.

Hit-Boy – Surf or Drown

This was probably my favorite release this New Music Friday. The production outdid itself on tracks such as “The Tide” (ft. Nas) and “Tony Fontana III” (ft. Curren$y), but that shouldn’t take away from Hit-Boy’s performance. He exceeded my expectations on the last track of the album “Composure, Pt. 2”. Great listen.

Rob49 – Hate It Or Love It ft DaBaby

DaBaby carried this song. Purely due to the fact that Rob49 felt off-beat anytime he rapped, meanwhile, DaBaby slid on the production and had a great flow the whole song. Besides this, the song wasn’t anything special.
