Jalen Carter Pleads No Contest

Jalen Carter’s story has some new updates. The former Georgia standout pleaded no contest for his involvement in the driving accident that killed Devin Willock and Chandler LeCroy earlier this year. Furthermore, his sentence was announced. One of the top prospects of this year’s NFL draft must serve 12 months of probation, pay a $1,000 fine, and complete 80 hours of community service. Carter must also complete state-approved defensive driving course. However, this also bars the state from bringing additional charges against Carter, according to his attorney.

The national champion was charged with reckless driving and racing. He was, however, not under the influence of any alcohol or drugs during the night of the crash. All of this also comes with Carter struggling during his pro day. So much so that he could not complete his position drills and refused to run the 40-yard dash. It’s hard to determine how this will all affect his draft stock next month.

Slippery Slope

The talent of Jalen Carter is undeniable. He was arguably Georgia’s best player for their back-to-back national titles. However, it’s clear there’s a lot going on both inside and out for him. Following an arrest warrant being issued and court dates mandated, Carter weighed in at 323 pounds at yesterday’s pro day. He was nine pounds heavier than at the NFL combine. He was also breathing heavily and cramping during the drills. One could argue that once everything settles down, he will be in much better shape to show the world why he’s in the conversation for the #1 pick.

The journey of Jalen Carter has just added another chapter. No matter how you cut it, this is not an easy time for the supremely talented defensive lineman.
