Opening yet another front in their quest to acquire Activision Microsoft has reached an agreement with Boosteroid Cloud Gaming, the world’s largest independent cloud gaming service. With over four million users, the service’s inclusion into Microsoft’s slate of deals means roughly 150 million gamers will have total access to Activision’s catalog. If the deal goes through that is.
Microsoft’s efforts to ensure this deal goes through despite Sony’s refusals and regulator’s concerns is impressive. Adding the Ukraine-based Boosteroid Cloud Gaming is yet another card in Microsoft’s deck that the company wants to use to try and bring the gaming world together in backing their acquisition of Activision. In an official Microsoft post the company’s CEO of their gaming division, Phil Spencer, emphasizes this.
“We believe in the power of games to bring people together. That’s why Xbox is committed to give everyone more ways to play their favorite games, across devices. Bringing Xbox PC games to Boosteroid members, including Activision Blizzard titles such as Call of Duty once the deal closes, is yet another step in realizing that vision.”
Microsoft’s efforts may seem like the company is trying to shore up support for their deal. Adding companies and groups like NVIDIA and Boosteroid Cloud Gaming to their coalition. As if they are going to find the quest for Activision to be a huge battle that will need the support of the gaming industry, except for Sony that is. But even as the tech-juggernaut gathers more to its cause, the deal with Activision may already be inevitable.
We’ll just have to see what happens, but Microsoft may already have this deal in the bag without knowing it.
