Orlando Brown Jr Signs Contract with Cincinnati Bengals

The best free agent offensive lineman of 2023 has officially signed with his new team. Orlando Brown Jr and the Bengals have agreed to terms on a contract for 4 years, worth 64 million dollars. He will now be protecting the blindside of Joe Burrow instead of Patrick Mahomes. Brown has been a pro bowl selection in four consecutive seasons. The Bengals will be relying on Brown to fill the role of the anchor on their offensive line in Cincinnati.

Coming off of a victory in Super Bowl 57, Orlando Brown Jr’s stock was high going into free agency. A third round pick by Baltimore in 2018, Brown was traded to Kansas City going into the 2021 season. Brown completed his rookie contract after his first year in Kansas City. And then received the franchise tag from the team going into 2022. The Chiefs elected not to use the franchise tag on Brown for a second straight year. Allowing him to test the free agency market and sign with the Bengals

The Chiefs wasted no time in finding Brown’s potential replacement by signing Jacksonville right tackle Jawaan Taylor to a 4 year 80 million dollar deal on Monday. Andy Reid and the Chiefs clearly could not pay Orlando Brown Jr what he was asking for in order to keep him.

Why Brown Jr is a Valuable Signing for Cincinnati

Consistent offensive lineman, let alone left tackles, are not a common thing in the NFL. Along with Brown, the Chiefs offensive line did not allow one sack in Super Bowl 57. Doing so against one of the leagues best defensive lines in the Philadelphia Eagles.

He proved to be a great run blocker on a Ravens offensive line that set an NFL record for most combined rushing yards as a team in 2019. Then proved to be a capable pass blocker in one of the leagues most pass heavy offenses. Orlando Brown Jr has established himself as a consistent player in a position group that depends on consistency. His new team in Cincinnati will be relying on him to do the same for them.
