Juju Smith-Schuster, Super Bowl Champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, has signed with the New England Patriots, per Ian Rapoport.
Smith-Schuster, 26, signed with the Pats for 3 years and $33 million dollars. We’ll have to see how he fits into New England’s offense with Mac Jones and this new receiving room. It’s safe to say he proved his worth last season and even got a ring out of it as a key member of the Chiefs’ offense. He’ll bring his experience to the Patriots’ receiving core.
Smith-Schuster was a valuable member of the Chiefs last season in their quest for the Lombardi Trophy. He revitalized his career, catching 78 passes for 933 yards and three touchdowns.
The former Steeler proved that he can still be effective in an offense even as the years have gone on. He signed in Kansas City as a one-year “prove it” deal in 2022.
Smith-Schuster will replace Jakobi Meyers, who left for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Juju publically announced the move.
“Excited for my next chapter in New England! I will give this organization everything I have, thank you for believing in me!” Smith-Schuster said on Twitter.
This is Smith-Schuster’s third team in his career. After his rivalry with the Patriots when he was a Steeler, Smith-Schuster will head to a new-look Pats team.
New England has had their eye on a big-time wide receiver this offseason. Paying Juju Smith-Schuster $11 million per season is interesting, but the price tag is probably pretty good. They could have traded for a guy like Jerry Jeudy or signed Odell Beckham Jr., but they decided to stick with a cheaper option.
