Gavrikov and Korpisalo traded to the Kings for Quick, first- and third-rounder

They have sadly shut the Jonathan Quick era down in Los Angeles as the Kings get a great return for the veteran goaltender. Vladislav Gavrikov and Joonas Korpisalo are headed to Los Angeles, according to Aaron Portzline.

The Kings will receive Gavrikov and Korpisalo for practically nothing. Los Angeles sends over Quick, a first-round pick and a third-round pick. They will most likely move Quick before the trade deadline ends, as the Columbus Blue Jackets will retain Quick’s salary.

In his time with Columbus, Gavrikov has only 10 points with three goals and seven assists this season. But as a non-offensive defenseman, stats aren’t a big concern for Gavrikov. He has been one of the best defensemen in the NHL in his time with Columbus. After this season, Gavrikov will become a unrestricted free agent. He currently carries a $2.8 million cap hit under his contract.

Korpisalo is also headed to LA on the deal. He is currently under contract for only a $1.3 million cap hit until he becomes a free agent this offseason like Gavrikov. Also, Korpisalo has struggled recently with the Blue Jackets. He currently holds a record of 11-11-3 with a 3.17 goals against average, and a .913 save percentage. Although the young Finnish goaltender has struggled this season, he has still shown promise to be a starting goaltender in the league.

Ultimately, the Quick era in Los Angeles has ended. A pretty sad ending to it, as Quick, was a King’s legend. He won two Stanley Cups with the Kings in 2012 and 2014. Quick also won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2012 after an unbelievable playoff performance. Quick posted a 1.41 GAA and a .946 save percentage. Now in the deal for Gavrikov and Korpisalo, Quick will most likely become traded again as Columbus retained his $5.8 million cap hit.
