Patrick Kane Fantasy Hockey Implications After Rangers Trade

This is what Patrick Kane fantasy owners have been waiting for. This one really isn’t complex but we’ll examine it regardless. Kane went from the poo poo Blackhawks to one of the NHL’s cream of the crop teams. It’s obviously something that’s going to reflect in a positive way for Kane’s fantasy value, but what else do you need to know?

Kane, 34, was averaging 2.3 fantasy points per game in Chicago. I would expect that to get a bump even if it’s a small one. There are still a lot of mouths to feed on this Rangers team but there will be plenty of chances to score. Regardless of who Kane skates with in New York, it will be better than the linemates he had in Chicago. Additionally, being on this Rangers powerplay is a very advantageous place to be.

Kane isn’t going to provide any value on defense or in the hits department. That’s always been the case with Kane though. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Kane get back to being a point per game player in New York. He’s going to rack up assists way easier in this situation.

If you have Kane on your roster I probably wouldn’t trade him unless presented with an offer you can’t refuse. If you rode with Kane for this long then there is no reason to bail after the trade where the grass should be a lot greener. It’s probably good news for everyone except Vladimir Tarasenko who probably gets bumped off the first powerplay unit now. It’s either Tarasenko or Kreider. Not room for all of them.

On the Blackhawks’ side of things, I think it’s pretty simple. Dump Seth Jones and other Chicago players on your roster. You probably shouldn’t have had any, to begin with. Take the best package you can get for Jones because odds are if he suffers a scratch then he’s going to sit out to increase lottery odds.
