Houston Cougars Outfielder Makes Awesome Flipping Home Run Robbery

Houston Cougars’ outfielder Drew Bianco made one of the most ridiculous catches I have ever seen on a baseball field on Sunday.

Bianco’s Cougars were leading Incarnate Word 8-3 in the sixth inning. Bianco went chasing after a deep fly ball. Next thing we know, he was making a sprawling, Austin Jackson-type play.

The difference between Jackson’s play and Bianco’s? Bianco’s was much more violent.

Some may be wondering, isn’t this a home run? The ball went over the wall, regardless of what the outfielder was doing. By the rule book, however, if his glove came off, it would have been a home run. If the ball popped out, it would also be gone. However, the player can sprawl over the wall as long as he has possession of the ball throughout the catch, which it seems like he does here.

I’m not going to be the one to try and take this away from Bianco. That’s a catch and an out.

The outfielder just popped right up. That might be the most athletic part of the play. Bianco landed hard behind that wall and popped up to flash the baseball right away. He was not going to let his incredible catch be taken away.

Everything about this play is awesome. I mean, just check out the kid that doesn’t know what’s going on in the background. Whilst climbing the swing set, he gives Bianco a glare. He is unbothered, however, as he continues his climb shortly after.

The left fielder can’t help himself but keep his jaw dropped. He is in utter shock, just like the rest of us.

Bianco was clearly beaten up after the play, gingerly walking back to the field of play. When he got back, he was hands-on knees for a little while, feeling the severity of the play.

I wish the announcer had a little bit more juice. He really didn’t even seem that surprised or excited. He seemed kind of sleepy.

Maybe he was because Bianco has already made a similar play earlier this season against Cal, without flipping over the wall.

The graduate transfer Bianco is building up the highlight reel of a lifetime.
