Quin Snyder To Sign Five-Year Deal Including 2022-2023

That was quick. Quin Snyder is set to become the next head coach of the Atlanta Hawks. Along with starting immediately, the former Utah Jazz bench boss is also agreeing to a five year contract. It is an odd homecoming of sorts as Snyder was once an assistant coach in Atlanta from 2013-2014. He also replaces Nate McMillan who was fired on Tuesday. Adrian Wojnarowski has more below:

Snyder is one of the most experienced and savvy coaches on the market. He has a wealth of experience in both college and the NBA. However, the 56-year-old is mostly known for his eight-year tenure in Utah that ended last season. Despite a wildly successful stint for a very small-market team, Snyder resigned after some recent playoff shortcomings. He had a big hand in coaching up All-Stars such as Donovan Mitchell, Gordon Hayward, and Rudy Gobert. His best season came in the shortened 2020-2021 season. He led the Jazz to an NBA-best 52-20 record while also being named the Western Conference’s head coach for the 2021 All-Star Game in Atlanta.

The Right Voice?

As I mentioned in the McMillan post, the Hawks are in a tricky spot. At 31-30, things could actually be looking up for them. One example is the statement 136-119 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday. Right now, they sit eighth in the Eastern Conference with another 21 games to play. With his coaching debut set for Tuesday, the questions will now shift to his abilities to manage a very interesting roster.

With a proven track record of getting success out of Mitchell and Gobert, Hawks fans hope he could do the same for their Big 3 of Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, and Clint Capela. They also have a fairly deep squad, with GM Travis Schlenk stockpiling young players for sometime. While not as packed as the West, the playoff race in the East could still provide some twists and turns as the home stretch continues.

Quin Snyder’s coaching hiatus is now over. He could have a great start to life in Atlanta if he is able to guide the team out of this hectic schedule and into a playoff berth. Now is the calm before the storm begins on Tuesday.
