Boston Radio Host Tony Massarotti Apologizes After Racist Comment

Tony Massarotti apologized to his viewers for questionable comments he made on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Felger & Mazz” show on Friday.

“I wanna know now who the two guys behind you are,” Massarotti said to Mike Felger, in reference to two Black men standing behind the camera. “They can’t hear us, right? Okay, so I would be careful if I were you. Because the last time you were around a couple of guys like that, they stole your car.”

Massarotti was trying to make a snarky remark in reference to Felger, who had his car stolen in the same city — New Orleans — they were filming in months earlier.

Massarotti apologized at the beginning of Monday’s “Felger & Mazz” show, calling the comment “hurtful” and “insensitive”.

“I owe everyone an apology. It’s not who I am. It’s not who we are,” Massarotti said. “I can tell you that until I’m blue in the face. Those of you who know me will believe it, those of you who don’t won’t — and you probably shouldn’t. If I saw and heard what you did, I’d feel the same way and you have a right to be upset.”

These comments just seem in poor taste. To be honest, I don’t know if Massarotti really meant malicious intent, but either way, it’s something you simply can’t say on air.

The popular Boston radio host’s apology seemed pretty heartfelt. He seemed genuinely upset about the situation beyond the public backlash.

Felger even said he felt partially responsible for what was said, and the situation afterward. Felger said he wished he stopped the show and corrected his comments right after he said it instead of apologizing later.

Over the weekend, some blasted Massarotti over the comments.

These situations are always hard to decipher, but this situation just seemed like a genuine mistake. That doesn’t excuse the comments, though.

Mistake or not, Tony Massarotti should be held accountable for his comments. He is a professional, after all. Those types of comments can’t fly on air.
