Jarek Broussard 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Jarek Broussard was not invited to the NFL Draft combine for 2023, therefore we can put out his official NFL draft profile now.

Broussard was a three-star recruit coming out of high school. He went to the University of Colorado for his freshman and sophomore season, before transferring to Michigan State.

During his two seasons at Colorado, he impressed, rushing for 895 yards on a 5.7 yards per carry average as a freshman, and 661 yards on a 4.7 yards per carry average as a sophomore. After he transferred to Michigan State, his workload and amount of production dipped, but the quality did not. He still managed a 4.7 yards per carry average for 298 yards during his season with the Spartans.

Broussard is your stereotypical scat-back: undersized, quick as can be and elusive. He is a tough runner with some wiggle to him from what I can tell from his limited tape. If there is a big enough hole, he’ll hit it hard and is laterally quick enough to make linebackers miss. He has great speed, although, it does seem like he will get tired on those long runs. If backside defenders take good angles, they can catch him. His burst and acceleration are dangerous, though.

While he will hit holes between the tackles, I wouldn’t trust him enough to do it consistently, especially in the NFL where holes will be tighter. Broussard is not patient enough to wait for plays to develop, won’t follow pullers, and often will bypass them if they’re not going his speed. He will need to be more patient to be successful in the NFL. He also often seems like he has one speed, even though he can move laterally really well. Learning how to change speed with his lateral quickness will be deadly.

Broussard has hands, and could be used as a wide receiver, if need be, and will be deadly in the screen game. As mentioned above, does have wiggle to make guys miss and make you pay for it. Has big play-making ability for sure.

My official prediction for Jarek Broussard is a UDFA gem. There’s simply not enough tape from him at Michigan State to make you feel comfortable drafting him. He might be a late late seventh round pick, but I fully believe he is talented.

While there is tape from his time at Colorado, having more tape from Michigan State would have helped his draft stock. From what I can see though, he has enough talent to be relevant in the NFL and could be the lightning to someone’s thunder in the running back room. Broussard could be used in the second half to make plays to a tired defense.

UDFA gem is on the table for Jarek Broussard, his ceiling is an RB2 while also being used as a WR in the passing game.
