Derek Carr isn’t extending contract deadline for the Raiders

Derek Carr doesn’t owe the Raider organization a thing. He continued to make that clear when the quarterback said he had no intention of extending his contract deadline, which would give the Raiders more time to make a decision.

The current deadline, which is Feb. 15, would guarantee Carr’s $40.4 million over the next two years. To prevent that, the Raiders must get him off the team by that date. Carr said at the Pro Bowl games that he’s looking for a team that is built to win, and the money doesn’t matter anymore.

“I’m just looking for teams that have made that decision consistently, that they’ll continually choose to do whatever it takes to put a winning program out there,” Carr told ESPN’s Stephen Holder at the Pro Bowl Games Thursday. “And so, for me, I just wanna win a championship.”

After nine seasons with the team, the Raiders decided to bench Carr for the last two games. He also made the decision to leave the team to avoid becoming a distraction. It looked like we’d never see him in Las Vegas again until he was added to the Pro Bowl.

Because of his no-trade clause, the 31-year-old quarterback can call the shots. Carr confirmed that the team has yet to allow him to discuss trades with other teams himself. General manager Dave Ziegler still believes the market will be hot for their quarterback.

“There’s going to be people interested in Derek Carr,” he said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “There’s no doubt about that. He’s been a good football player in this league for quite some time. Like I said, he’s a phenomenal human being, and we’ll kind of see where it goes.”

While DC4 isn’t the problem in Vegas, he didn’t help his case in 2022. He threw for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns and tied a career-high with 14 interceptions. His 86.3 QB rating was also the second-lowest of his career.

Carr is already showing a new attitude by participating in the Pro Bowl games. In the precision passing game, Carr collected 31 points which gave the AFC the win. At this rate, the Pro Bowl is turning into a free agent combine for him.

As I’ve mentioned before, Carr doesn’t owe the organization anything. They hired a head coach who was the wrong choice, then used Carr as the scapegoat after a 6-11 record. Give this man a competent franchise and he’ll win a Super Bowl. Book it.
