New Jersey Devils associate coach Andrew Brunette has been arrested in South Florida for a DUI, as first reported by Andy Slater.
Brunette was driving home from a bar in southern Florida in a golf cart when he was pulled over in the Deerfield Beach area. Brunette was also charged with two counts of disobeying a stop or yield sign, according to Broward County Jail Records. He is expected to be released on a $500 bond on Wednesday.
The New Jersey Devils have posted a statement saying they’re aware of Brunette’s arrest and are expecting more information to come on him.
It is only Brunette’s first season as an associate coach for the New Jersey Devils alongside head coach Lindy Ruff. Brunette was hired on July 13 this previous summer. He was the former interim head coach for the Florida Panthers in the 2021-22 season. Brunette previously coached and was the assistant general manager for the Minnesota Wild for a short stint.
Brunette has been a great hire for the Devils in this brief span with helping them become one of the best teams in the NHL. The Devils hold a record of 32 wins, 13 losses and four overtime losses. The Devils currently have a home record of 13 wins, 10 losses, and two overtime losses. While away from the Prudential Center, they’re 19-3-2.
Brunette has spent many years in Broward County, as being the interim head coach in 2021 for the Panthers and an assistant coach in 2019 alongside Joel Quenneville.
Brunette will most likely be back behind the Devils bench after the NHL All-Star break ends. No news from the Devils on a potential suspension or punishment towards Brunette has been released yet.
