Marty Scurll was accused of taking advantage of an intoxicated underage girl in 2015. These allegations surfaced in 2020, around the same time many other women were speaking out about their experiences with other wrestlers in the business. Scurll had been a big part of Ring of Honor until the allegations came out.
Recently, Konnan defended his booking of the wrestler for AAA on an episode of Keepin’ It 100. He downplayed the accusations and called Scurll a bigger star than many of the wrestlers being pushed currently in AEW.
“Here’s the thing about Marty Scurll,” Konnan said. “Marty Scurll did that with a [sic] in England. I think that’s a legal age, am I correct or am I incorrect?… So she’s one year older than the thing it’s in the United States, where it’s considered bad. So if in his country it’s not illegal what do I give a f*ck about it? Was he convicted? The guy’s already ostracized, nobody will use him for like two years, and guess what? To me he’s a bigger star than Andretti, Yuta, or Daniel Garcia, I’ll put all my money on that,” Konnan said. (4:15-4:50) (h/t Max Everett / Sportskeeda)
Scurll has worked closely with many huge names in wrestling over the years, including Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. The allegations definitely put a roadblock in Scurll’s career, but Konnan seemingly doesn’t mind. It will be interesting to see what happens from here for Scurll and AAA. Blatantly downplaying these accusations may not have been the best move by Konnan, but only time will tell.
