Patrick Beverley alludes he was a better Clipper than Chris Paul

Breaking news: Patrick Beverley does not like Chris Paul.

This is by no means a revelation to NBA fans as the two have had beef for years now. Beverley, who now plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, shared some thoughts on his rival on Kevin Hart’s “Cold As Balls” show.

“Then he left, and I came on the Clippers,” Beverley said. “Only crew the Clippers went to the Western Conference Finals; the only time. They didn’t go there with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, the Lob City. They went there with me.”

Beverley’s statements are factual — Paul is known for not having the greatest success in the playoffs. However, Paul was an All-Star selection in five of his six years as a Los Angeles Clipper, while posting averages of 18.8 points, 9.8 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals. He led the league in assists twice and steals three times.

These are phenomenal numbers and illustrate how great of a player Paul was for the Clippers. Still, even though he made the playoffs in all six years with the team, the Clippers never once made it to the Western Conference Finals.

Beverley, meanwhile, played for the Clippers for four years and finished with averages of 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He was a starter for most of his time with the Clippers, but he found himself coming off the bench in certain lineups. Beverley missed the playoffs in his first year in Los Angeles, lost in the first round of his second year, gave up a 3-1 lead in the second round of his third year and made the Western Conference Finals in his fourth season.

His playoff record with the Clippers isn’t pretty but at the end of the day, Beverley did take the Clippers one step closer to the NBA Finals with the organization than Paul. Although, one player was a five-time All-Star, and the other player sometimes came off the bench.

The many beefs of Patrick Beverley

Beverley is one of the most polarizing players in the NBA. He is a strong and intense athlete that is constantly grinding and working his tail off when he is on the court. His motor is relentless, and he is a real pest to his opponents. He often gets under other players’ skin which leads him to be hated by some fans and appreciated for his tough play style by other fans.

Besides Paul, Beverley has also annoyed the likes of Russell Westbrook and Damian Lillard.

The Westbrook dates back to the 2013 NBA playoffs when the two faced each other in the Oklahoma City-Houston matchup. Beverley also has heated battles with Lillard every time they face off because of past playoff matchups.

Ultimately, Patrick Beverley’s recent shots toward Paul seem unnecessary but completely in character. Whether or not people agree with Beverley’s take one thing is for sure these two will continue to be must-see television when on the court against each other.
