Will The Celtics Trade For Trae Young?
When there’s smoke, there is usually fire. Trae Young apparently is not happy with the direction of the Hawks and could look to move on sooner rather than later. Young also has four and a half years remaining on his contract but that’s a story for another day.
BetOnline released odds for the next landing spot of the Hawks point guard. The Celtics have the best record in the NBA but are somehow third on the list of teams.
- Mavericks +250
- Heat +350
- Celtics +400
- Lakers +700
- Nuggets +700
- Spurs +850
- Pelicans +900
- Clippers +1000
I won’t lie, I was shocked to see the Celtics this high on the list. What would a trade even look like? Are they even interested?
Once upon a time, Jaylen Brown was idiotically included in Kevin Durant trade rumors. Maybe Brad Stevens is dumb enough to pull off a similar stint with Young and the Hawks. Don’t ask me why Stevens stinks at basketball personnel decisions. On the surface level, a Brown swap is the only thing that makes realistic sense.
Half the reason why the Celtics are so good is because of their commitment to the defensive side of the floor. Young doesn’t help in that aspect at all. I’m just not sure I understand the odds here. It feels impossible for the Celtics to even pull off such a move. What are you going to do, build a package around aging Malcolm Brogdon? Not sure how it works.
I can’t believe the Celtics are third in odds for a potential Trae Young trade. That feels like an opportunity to throw money out the window. Never count the chickens before they hatch but it feels more likely that I will find a way to walk on water before Young wears a Celtics uniform. They’re not trading Jaylen Brown to get it done. Something that the Hawks will certainly ask for in return.
