Could life get any better for the Golden State Warriors? A team that seems to have everything and is ten tiers above everyone else is still looking to improve. Despite the fact that the Warriors have the best record in the NBA at 41-12, the Warriors are looking to add around the edges of this amazing core. The Warriors really haven’t gotten a ton out of their bench and are in the market to add a 7th or 8th man of sorts off the bench.
Zach Lowe of ESPN had the latest in his trade deadline primer column:
“The Warriors are trying to beef up their bench given wobbly play from Andre Iguodala, Patrick McCaw, Omri Casspi and Nick Young. They inquired about Avery Bradley, but got nowhere, league sources say. That’s not surprising; the Warriors have little to deal beyond minimum-salaried players, second-round picks starting in 2020, and first-rounders they obviously won’t flip for bench guys.”
Avery Bradley is a player who could be on the move for the third time this season after he has been shipped from Boston to Detroit to the LA Clippers. Now the retooling Clippers are looking to move the expiring contract of Bradley for any sort of asset they can get rather than losing him for nothing. Bradley may be a long shot to land but he would give Golden State a great 2-way player at guard who has elite defensive traits.
As Lowe pointed out, the Warriors bench has really underachieved. The Warriors don’t seem to be vulnerable at the moment but that could change if they suffer a major injury or two. The Nets could be a team that Warriors take a look at. Role players in Brooklyn such as Joe Harris or Spencer Dinwiddie could give the Warriors that jolt that enables them to sweep every single team in the playoffs again this year. The Warriors rivals over in Cleveland probably need to make a deal in order to secure a fourth straight meeting in the NBA Finals.
