Forward Trevor Moore was about to hit unrestricted free agency this Summer and the Kings were not about to let him leave. Midway through the 2022 season, Los Angeles has agreed to a contract extension with the two-way forward. Moore and LA will agree to a five-year extension worth $21 million.
Greg Wyshynski of ESPN was the first to report the news:
Moore is a really good player and it’s no surprise that the Kings wanted to lock down the southern California native. Getting the deal done now likely saved the Kings money down the road had he hit the open market.
As you can see by the player cards above, Moore does all of the little things well. If he starts finishing some of the scoring chances, then the Kings got a bargain. That’s a big if, however, as Moore has never been a dominant goal scoring machine. Moore, 27, scored a career-high 17 goals a year ago. This season, Moore has 18 points in 32 games.
Moore was an infamous part of the Jack Campbell trade with Toronto. Moore was sent to LA along with two third round picks for Campbell. A trade that’s paying off considering that Campbell now stinks and is no longer even with the Leafs. Then again, the Kings are having major goalie issues right now as well. LA has a lot of young players in the system but feels confident enough in Moore given the new contract he got. Moore is now part of the Kings core moving forward and the extension proves it.
