Is Micah Parsons throwing shade at Jalen Hurts?

Jalen Hurts has taken a leap this year that many people didn’t expect. Eagles fans expected improvement, but I think even they have been shocked by just how good Hurts has been in 2022. He’s in the thick of the MVP race and currently has the best odds to win. Despite this breakout season though, some people, like Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, are a little more skeptical of Hurts’ development.

While on “Voncast,” Von Miller‘s podcast, Parsons asked the following question:

“When we look at the Eagles, is it Hurts or the team?” Parsons said.

Parsons then later went on to say:

“It’s system and team,” Parsons said. “I’m not trying to make no enemies. I just love the game so much, and I understand it so much, that when things are off, I just can’t hold it in. I just gotta say something.”

Hurts has been playing the best football of his young career and the hype train has picked up as a result this season. But for some reason, Parsons isn’t sold on the third-year quarterback. I get it’s a rivalry and he’s probably just trying to hype his guys up but giving a 12-1 team bulletin board material is never a good idea in my eyes.

Aside from that, I wanted to address the dumb point that Parsons makes here, which also happens to be the same point idiots on the internet like to throw out. Parsons’ main claim is that the Eagles’ overall system is more indicative of their success rather than the play of Hurts.

Uhhh, hey dumb***, isn’t that the entire point of football? Bring in good players and surround your franchise quarterback with talent. I guess now teams are just supposed to put their quarterbacks in the worst position possible and hope they survive.

I don’t know how this silly narrative started, but it’s time it comes to an end. I’m sorry you may be the fan of a franchise that can never bring in talent but stop trying to bring down opposing quarterbacks because of it. Oh no, a team gave their QB weapons? That means he sucks since the organization needed to acquire talent to make you good. It just sounds so stupid and makes you look like an idiot.

Following this logic, I could say that Patrick Mahomes is severely overrated. Crazy, you say? Well, this is a guy who inherited the league’s best offense with weapons including Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Kareem Hunt, and arguably the greatest offensive-minded coach in NFL history Andy Reid. With all that in mind, is Mahomes just a garbage quarterback who’s a product of his system? I didn’t think so.

Ok, I think I got most of that off my chest. This is just something that has bugged me for some time and feels very stupid to me.

I know that, in theory, what Micah Parsons is saying is true. The Eagles do have an amazing system and one of the best rosters in the league. But if you don’t think that this comment was made to take a dig at Hurts, then you don’t understand the rivalry these two teams have.

There is nothing wrong with believing Parsons’ statement, per se. But once you start trying to drag quarterbacks down because of what’s around them is where I have a problem. It just makes you sound bitter and, worst of all, makes you sound stupid — we don’t want that.

All in all, I guess only time will tell. What I do know is that this Week 15 matchup between the Cowboys and Eagles just became a whole lot more interesting. Blood will be shed and I, for one, can’t wait to watch Lane Johnson turn Micah Parsons into his son again.
