Trea Turner Is Heading To The Phillies

Trea Turner is on the move! The superstar shortstop is the newest Philadelphia Phillie. ESPN’s Jeff Passan was the first to break the news on the former Dodger’s move to Philadelphia:

His colleague Kiley McDaniel was on top of the terms, with Turner pocketing a total of $300 million over eleven years with a full no trade clause:

Major League Baseball’s hot stove has arguably never been hotter. On the same day the World Series champion Astros lost their ace to the New York Mets, their opponent in the Fall Classic caught one of the biggest fishes available. It was assumed that there would be no shortage of suitors and dollars for the 2019 World Series Champ. The fresh contract proved exactly that. Turner, an All Star each of the past two seasons, was unsurprisingly a man in demand. Elsewhere, another storyline to point out is that Turner is reunited with former Nationals’ teammate and two-time NL MVP Bryce Harper in Philadelphia. Not only does the acquisition of Turner shake up the landscape of the NL East, but it also firmly establishes the Phillies as one of the teams to beat in the entire National League.

Very Well Deserved

For starters, you could not find many better role models in baseball than Trea Turner. He plays excellent defense, hits for contact, and is a clutch performer. With a silver slugger and batting title to his name, there are still many chapter left in his impressive career. Furthermore, while leaving the Dodgers is not easy, he also walks into a perfect situation. Turner could be an excellent lead off hitter at Citizens Bank Park. In addition, he strongly compliments the murderers row of Harper, JT Realmuto, Kyle Schwarber, and Nick Castellanos. As well, he is back in the division where his career started. It’s hard to compete with the likes of the Braves and Mets. However, Philly is very well positioned to give them a run for their money. As if you didn’t need more reasons to like him, this Jon Hamm-narrated video of Turner inspires goosebumps:

If I was a Phillies fan, I would take off work and celebrate today. The Phillies, who sported baseball’s fourth highest payroll in 2022, is clearly not afraid to splash the cash. More importantly, spending it wisely is a big reason why they made it out of the NL bracket of last year’s playoffs. At 29, this shapes up to be a very wise investment at worst. Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies deserve a pat on the back. They’re built to have a very strong window for the next few years.
